In pursuant to Memorandum Circular No. 79, s. 2015, the Antonio Serapio Elementary School joined the synchronized metro-wide earthquake drill last July 30, 2015 in view of the preparedness measure for a 7.2 magnitude earthquake dubbed as “The Big One”.
Parents, pupils, teachers, administrators, and various community personnel worked hand in hand in conducting the said drill. It was an exercise with a real-world scenario wherein possible casualties are enacted; pupils scurrying to exit the building with their improvised head protectors with teachers guiding them towards safety. And of course, follow up activities were done headed by the incident commander checking each team’s status with teachers as members of each team. Selected students were also tasked to be part of the aftermath scenario where they help with giving out first aid, rescue trapped individuals in the building, secure the evacuees, transport the victims, and tally the numbers of the survivors and casualties. This drill gave each and every one a glimpse on the importance of preparedness whenever and wherever an earthquake might happen. Even before this exercise, AMSES community has done drill practices, family earthquake preparedness homework, classroom discussions and the likes.
It was exhilarating and at the same time enlightening for the whole community to join this kind of activity aimed to ready not just a particular sector but for the general welfare.
